THIS TOWN HAS THREE NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS. NOW IT WANTS ANOTHER ONE.
I produced, wrote, edited, shot, and hosted this video for Vox.com
Where do you put a nuclear power plant? What does it take to build one? And why is the US so bad at building nuclear, compared to the rest of the world?
I've always been fascinated by nuclear power, but felt like a lot of media didn't go further than "pros and cons". So I decided to go a bit deeper into the process of it all, and ended up taking a trip up to Oswego, NY.
The town of Oswego, New York, has three nuclear power plants within 10 miles — and it wants another one. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul recently announced a commitment to add a gigawatt of nuclear power to the New York state grid, partially to meet the electricity demands of the booming AI industry. And Oswego is vying to be chosen as a site for this new power plant.
I interviewed the mayor of Oswego, got to see a nuclear power plant up close, and went deep on the history of nuclear in the US. And ended up getting caught in a classic early snow storm.
